Shelia Benzon: Shelia brings over 20 years of experience in ministering to women, couples and singles. She builds on 7 years as a preschool teacher. God has taken Shelia’s painful “broken world” experiences and turned them into jewels to be used in the lives of others. Sharing from her heart the biblical tools she has learned, Shelia helps others resolve conflict and brings emotional freedom God’s way. She and her husband, Mike, facilitate our Couple Communication Class which helps engaged or married couples communicate better on day-to-day issues and resolve conflicts in order to build more satisfying marriages and family relationships. Shelia is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.
John and Alice Bourdon serve as directors of Grace Adventure, an intense, challenging “hands-on” workshop experienced in an atmosphere of love, acceptance and trust. The Bourdons served as missionaries with Central American Mission and taught in the theological seminary in Guatemala City. John is now an international consultant in chemical engineering. Dr. Lynch dedicated his book, You Can Work It Out, to the Bourdons who have worked these principles into their lives and marriage.

Blessed by Bernard “Hi my name is Kris. I am currently an inmate worker at Boulder County Jail, in Colorado. I thought being here would affect my life in many ways. I was so honored and touched today having the opportunity to listen to Bernard Lopez, your Latin American Director, and he gave me more help than I have ever felt. I cannot wait to open my heart to the Lord and follow Him in every way that is possible. I believe now God sent me here to open my eyes and heart in many ways I could never have imagined. Statement of Faith and Practice
I. Bibliology (Study of the Bible)
Revelation: The Bible, with all of its sixty-six books, was divinely revealed to man. Therefore, it rests as the final authority for faith and practice (Rom. 10:17; 1 Thes. 4:1). It was progressively revealed and is now complete (Heb. 1:1-2).
Inspiration: The complete Bible is inspired of God in the sense that it was not merely an “act of man’s will” but it was God superintending these human authors using their own style and even personality. These men composed and recorded without error God’s complete and perfect revelation to man in the words of the original autographs (II Peter 1:20-21; II Tim. 3:16).
II. Theology (Study of God)
The revelation of God: There are two means of revelation. First, there is a general or natural revelation which is comprehended through nature and human conscience (Rom. 1:19-20). This revelation is inadequate for salvation; therefore, secondly, there is special or supernatural revelation. This was accomplished through the incarnate Word (Jn. 1:14, 18; Heb. 1:1-2) and with the written Word (II Tim. 3:16; Rom. 10:17).
The Godhead and the Trinity: There is only one God (Deut. 6:4) who is a spirit (Jn. 4:24). He is the essence but exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19).
The attributes of God: These are the essential characteristics which belong peculiarly and particularly to God. They include: Holiness (Isa. 6:3); Omniscience (Ps. 139:1-4); Omnipotence (Rev. 4:8); Omnipresence (Ps. 139:7-12); Immutability (Mal. 3:6); Righteous (Deut. 32:4); Love (I Jn. 4:7-10); Goodness (Rom. 2:4); and Truth (Jn. 17:3).
Creation: God did create the entire universe in six literal days (Gen. 2:1-3), not out of any pre-existing materials (Gen. 1:1; Jn. 17:5).
III. Christology (Study of Christ)
Pre-existence of Christ: Jesus Christ does exist eternally (Jn. 1:1). Before the incarnation, He existed as the eternal Son of God, the second person of the Trinity and as co-equal with the Father (Heb. 1:8; Jn. 17:5).
His humanity and Deity: Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He is a divine person possessed of all the attributes of Deity and should be worshiped as God by men and angels (Jn. 20:28; Titus 2:13). He was in every respect a real man: got tired, ate, wept, etc.), but without sin (Heb. 4:15). His divine attributes were veiled except for special occasions (Phil. 2:6-11).
His ministry on earth, His death and resurrection: Jesus was supernaturally conceived by the agency of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35). The four gospels recorded selected events in His life but by no means all of them (Jn. 21:25). He was technically executed by crucifixion under Pontius Pilate although he found Jesus to be blameless (Jn. 19:4). God then raised Him on the third day in a glorified body still capable of eating fish and being touched (Jn. 20:17; 27). After forty days of ministry, He then ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9-11). Without a firm belief in the bodily resurrection of Christ, there cannot be a genuine salvation experience (Rom. 10:9-10).
His present ministry: He is now making intercession on behalf of the saints (Rom. 8:34). He is also preparing a place for these saints (Jn. 14:2). At His direction, He is bestowing gifts unto men (Eph. 4:7-11). He continues to indwell believers (Gal. 2:20), and continually wash away the sins of believers (I Jn. 2:1).
IV. Pneumatology (Study of the Holy Spirit)
The deity of the Spirit: The Holy Spirit is a person, not a mere influence of just God’s active force in the world (Matt. 28:19; Jn. 14:26). Being the third person of the Trinity (in administration, not rank), He is fully and totally God and co-equal with the other members. Attributes of God are described to Him (Rom. 8:2; Jn. 16:13); He does the work of God (Titus 3:5); and He receives honor due only to God.
His ministry as related to Old Testament Saints: The Holy Spirit was present with Old Testament saints but He did not permanently indwell them in the New Testament sense (Jn. 14:17). The Holy Spirit came upon certain men to empower them to perform specific tasks or to fulfill certain offices and could be taken from them (I Sam. 16:14).
His ministry as related to the life of Christ: It was by the power of the Holy Spirit that Christ was conceived (Luke 1:35). It was at the baptism of Christ that the Holy Spirit came upon Him (Mark 1:10). Jesus performed this miracle through the power of the Holy Spirit (Matt. 12:28). It was through the Spirit that Christ offered Himself on the cross (Heb. 9:14); and it was through the Spirit that Jesus was raised form the grave (Rom. 8:11).
His ministry as it is related to believers today: It is one of restraining evil (II Thes. 2:7-8); convicting men of sin and showing them to Christ (Jn. 12:320; regenerating (Jn. 3:5; Titus 3:5); baptizing us into the Body of Christ (I Cor. 12:13); indwelling (Jn. 14:16-17); sealing for ownership and authority by God for redemption (II Cor. 1;22); and of infilling (Eph. 5:18).
The gifts of the Spirit: The Holy Spirit gives gifts to believers for the maturing of the saints in order to accomplish the work of the ministry for the building up of the body of Christ (Eph. 4:12). These gifts will differ from believer to believer (Rom. 12:6) but each believer is given at least one gift (I Cor. 12; 4-11).
V. Anthropology (Study of Man)
Creation: God created man out of the soil and in His image (not physical image, but a spiritual and rational likeness (Gen. 1;16-17; 2:7).
Fall: Having been created in innocence but with freedom of personal choice, Adam willfully and knowingly chose to disobey God’s explicit command and therefore “fell” or began a separation from God called “spiritual death.” This condition is passed on by birth (Rom. 5:12-21). Physical and spiritual deaths result (Rom. 6:23).
Sin: Sin is basically selfishness or self managing the life of a person (Rom. 6:23). From this, sins issue – individual acts of disobedience, indifference, or unbelief (Rom. 3:23; I Jn 1:9).
VI. Soteriology (Study of Salvation)
God’s Sovereignty in grace: Not one man deserves God’s favor and love (Rom. 3:10; Eph. 2:8-9); therefore, all men deserve eternal separation form God (Rom. 6:23). However, God elected to save certain people from that end (Rom. 9). The paradox is that whosoever will come to Him, He will in no way cast out – human will – but no man can come unto the Father lest He draws him – election (Jn. 6:37, 44).
Justification: As a sinner accepts Jesus by faith as his own personal Savior, he is at that moment justified or judicially declared to be righteous on the basis of Christ’s righteousness being imparted to him (Rom. 5:1-2; II Cor. 5:21).
Sanctification: Justification is what God does for us and sanctification is what God does in us. The believer is separated from his sin unto a holy life (I Cor. 1:2). Positionally, he is set aside for holiness and practically he is being set aside for holiness in manner and conduct (Jn. 17:17; I Cor. 6:11). This is a ministry of the Holy Spirit.
Glorification: The final step of salvation is glorification. This occurs at the moment the believer dies and immediately finds himself in the presence of the Lord. He is given a glory like that of Christ’s (I Cor. 15; I Jn. 3:2).
Eternal Security: Once God makes us His son we cannot be removed from the “family” because “by grace we are saved” and by grace we are kept. Nothing can separate us now (Rom. 8:38-39; Jn. 10:28).
Steps in Salvation: The sinner in convicted of his sin as sin (Jn. 16:8-11). He is shown that Christ and the application of His work is his only solution (Jn. 14:6; II Cor. 5:21; Rom. 5:8). As the sinner expresses faith in Christ and His work of redemption, then he is born anew (Jn. 3); as he expresses Him as Lord, he gets a new “land lord” (Rom. 10:9-10).
VII. Angelology (Study of Angels)
Angels: Angels are created spirits positioned above men but will be judged by men (I Cor. 6:3). They are ministering spirits to the saints but are not to be worshiped. They are created for His praise (Ps. 148:2,5).
Demons: These are fallen angels which were led by Satan to rebel against God (Isa. 14:14-16). They have much power over sinful men (Mark 5:1-5). Their ultimate destination, like that of their leader, will be the judgment of God and eternal destruction in the lake of fire (Rev. 20:10).
Satan: He is a literal person who was once the highest created being. He is an angel of light and is quite cunning (II Cor. 2:11; 11:13-15). He is “public enemy #1” against God and His saints, plus being the prince of the power of the air now (Eph. 2:2).
VIII. Ecclesiology (Study of the Church)
The Church invisible: This is the Body of Christ made up of born-again believers with Christ the Head (I Cor. 12:13; Eph. 5:23).
The Church visible: The local assembly of believers which gather for instruction, fellowship, worship and prayer. This makes up the visible church – expressed in many forms (Acts 2:41-47).
Ordinances: Water baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper (communion) are the only ordinances of the church and they are a Scriptural means of testimony for the Church in this age (Matt. 28:19; I Cor. 11:25).
Officers: There seems to be two main offices in the local assembly, that of elder and deacon. The elders were called by other names denoting different phases of their office: bishop or overseers (Acts 20:28; I Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:7). The deacons are to assist the pastor in his work (I Tim. 3:8-13) and are to be led by him.
IX. Eschatology (Study of End Times)
The state of the dead: At death, the body returns to the soil and the soul of the believer departs to be with Christ in conscious blessedness to await the Rapture when his body shall be raised and transformed into the likeness of His glorious body (I Thes. 4:13-17). The unbeliever’s soul goes to Hades to await the resurrection of the body for final judgment and eternal punishment in the lake of fire (Luke 16:22-24; Rev. 20:13).
Closing calendar: Christ shall reveal Himself and all the saints shall be taken up to Heaven with Him (I Thes. 4:13-17). This will be preceded or accompanied by a great turning away for the faith (II Thes. 2:1). Following the rapture, the tribulation will begin led by the Anti-Christ. At the end of the 70th week of Daniel (7 years) Christ will return bodily to the earth and battle at Armageddon (Zech. 14:4; Rev. 19:11-16). Following this period, the 1,000 year reign of Christ will begin during which Satan will be bound and then loosed for a period, then finally judged. There will be a final judgment for the resurrected wicked who will then be cast into the lake of fire. The believers will be with Christ in the eternal state- the new heaven and the new earth (Rev. 21:22).
